From Disney Shirts to Downtown Elkin

When we found out we had been selected to foster Autumn Rose, Erin introduced me to the world of monograms, embroidery, appliqué, and smocking. Suddenly, I was living in what felt like a lifetime subscription to Southern Living magazine. Being the good husband I am, I bought Erin a single-needle embroidery machine so she could monogram anything and everything she wanted. Little did I know that this embroidery machine would inspire a small business and a deeper exploration into crafting.

The magic of personalization cannot be overstated. When our family visited Walt Disney World, we always wore coordinating shirts for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. We could tell the year by the shirts we wore. Now that Mama and Daddy are gone, those shirts bring back priceless memories and give me comfort.

Erin loved putting Autumn’s name on her diaper covers. As her skills grew, she began creating birthday shirts, gender reveal shirts, bibs, sweatshirts, tote bags, and many other personalized items for friends and family. For over a year, we even ran an Etsy store to take online embroidery orders. Eventually, as the kids grew older and became involved in sports and other activities, we set the business aside to focus on family.
